Double bassist LonFon Law narrates with an intimate yet direct musical voice, connecting and conversing with listeners through his expansive palette and expressive potency. Born in Hong Kong, he studied internationally with such leading pedagogues as Harold Robinson, Graham Mitchell, Tom Goodman and Dominic Seldis, developing a wide-ranging solo, chamber and orchestral career.

LonFon has been recognized in several prestigious international competitions. His honors include the International J. M. Sperger Competition T&G Martin Special Award, the Royal Academy of Music Alex Ross Double Bass Prize, and a semi-finalist placement at the International Society of Bassists Solo Competition. As an avid chamber musician, he has been featured at the Musicus Fest, Newark Arts Festival, Music Academy of the West Chamber Night, RAM Bicentenary Chamber Music Festival and Juilliard SonataAbend, among others.

Enthusiastic in contemporary music, LonFon actively collaborates with composers of under-represented demographics. He was invited to world premiere and record Joan Tower’s Beauty and the Beast for solo double bass in London, and performed in the recent world premiere tour of Seung-won Oh’s Umbra with Musicus Soloists Hong Kong at Hong Kong City Hall and Salle Gaveau, Paris. As Principal Bass, he has led local premieres of new works by Loggins-Hull, Montgomery, Price and Simon with the New Jersey Symphony.

As a proud Juilliard Morse Teaching Fellow, LonFon remains invested in the music education of the next generation. Outside of private teaching, he is a teaching artist at the New York City Department of Education’s Bronx Summer String Camp, and Coach-in-Residence at the New Jersey Symphony Youth Orchestra, Training Ensemble and Newark Arts High School.

LonFon has been serving as Acting Principal Bass at the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra since 2025, and regularly performs around the world with Musicus Soloists Hong Kong. Prior to joining the Symphony, he has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra and English National Opera.

The inaugural recipient of the LSO Conservatoire scholarship, LonFon holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Royal Academy of Music and a Master’s degree from the Juilliard School. In 2026, he was named Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for significant contributions in his field.
